JEAN-LOUIS BRACHET
- Biography
Born in Toulon, Jean-Louis lived in the Lavandou on the Riviera until after WWII when the family emigrated to Mexico where his mother had been born and had family. He was raised in Mexico City where he was influenced by his father, an avid water colourist of some fame. Jean-Louis started painting in his teens, further influenced by the Mexican muralists and colourists.
After studies in literature and philosophy at UCLA's French Department, he moved to Canada (Vancouver) in 1969 but continued to show his works in Mexico. From 1987 through the 1990's he was primarily occupied with family and his teaching career. Jean-Louis retired and revisited France in 2002. He was inspired again and painted full time until his passing in 2010.
Brachet preferred pastels as his medium of expression but also worked in acrylics and mixed media.
